I will work hand in hand with educators, parents, and community leaders to strengthen our city’s educational foundation, drive student achievement, and create a brighter future for the next generation. Community Cleanups
Valley Creek has long been a vital natural resource for Birmingham and its surrounding communities, supporting local ecosystems and flowing west from downtown Birmingham to the Black Warrior River. Spanning approximately 257 square miles, its watershed includes Pleasant Grove and neighboring cities such as Bessemer, Hueytown, Midfield, and Fairfield. While Valley Creek continues to improve as an aquatic habitat, ongoing efforts are essential to preserving its health. The Biannual Valley Creek Clean-Up, a collaborative initiative led by the Valley Creek Cleanup Committee and supported by multiple municipalities, focuses on raising public awareness and removing trash from the watershed. With the help of local organizations and volunteers, over 80 tons of debris have already been cleared from Valley Creek and its roadways. As your next mayor, Yolanda Lawson is committed to protecting Pleasant Grove’s natural resources and encouraging community participation in efforts like the Valley Creek Clean-Up to ensure a cleaner, healthier future for all.

Jazz in the Grove – City Councilor Yolanda Lawson, a dedicated community leader and candidate for Pleasant Grove Mayor, created the Jazz in the Grove Festival to bring the community together through music and culture. Now in its third year, this free event at Pleasant Grove High School features live jazz, local vendors, and a Kid’s Zone with face painting, bubbles, and a photo booth. “For the past three years, we’ve celebrated our great city while supporting local talent and businesses,” said Lawson. As she campaigns for Mayor, she remains committed to fostering community engagement and economic growth. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of great music and community spirit—just one of the many ways Lawson is making a difference in Pleasant Grove.

As a dedicated Pleasant Grove City Councilwoman and candidate for Mayor, Yolanda Lawson has been a driving force in ensuring local schools have the resources they need to support students and teachers. Recognizing the importance of education in building a strong community, she initiated city funding totaling $295,000 over the past three years to provide back-to-school supplies, ensuring that every child, regardless of financial background, starts the school year prepared. Beyond funding, Lawson has been a consistent advocate for enhancing school programs, supporting teachers, and fostering partnerships between the city, local businesses, and the school system to create better learning opportunities. She understands that investing in education means investing in the future of Pleasant Grove, and as Mayor, she is committed to expanding these efforts by securing additional resources, improving school facilities, and ensuring that students, parents, and educators have the tools they need to succeed.
